Here’s what I like about cupcakes: They are overly sweet, overly sinful, and overly awesome. As my nana always says, “No one’s ever too fancy for a cocktail weinie.” I feel the same about cupcakes. The basic, supermarket brand, cloying icing, I’m-gonna-barf-but-it-was-so-good is what I go for, always.

I gotta say, I’m a big fan of the Hostess cupcake knockoffs at Cupcake Charlie’s in Plymouth. You wouldn’t think that it’s possible to improve upon the original, epoxy-based treat…but they have nailed it.

Sarah, I couldn’t agree more. I always get enticed by the beauty of these cupcakes, but in the end, they don’t deliver. If I’m going to have the calories, it had better be damn good. I’ve been known to take a bite and then throw the rest away if it’s not worthy. I have this same complaint with muffins. Some people have the misconception that a muffin, any muffin, is a healthy breakfast.
